An inspired visitor to the S.F. Zen Centers' Tasajara Bath House,
a building we designed in 1994, asked us to create a private version
for her home in Austin, Texas. The new room is linked to the existing
house and extends into the backyard, surrounded by covered and open
raised wooden walks, all weaving through new garden landscaping
of plants and large rocks. Sliding glass 'shoji' screens permit
the bathing room to be completely enclosed or open to the garden.
The room contains a large sunken hot tub and a sink. The materials
are of wood throughout, with exposed roof framing trusses overhead,
rustic features that are in harmony with the existing house.
